The largest donor to President Obama's super PAC blasted Ann Romney, the wife of presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney, last night on his HBO TV show for having "never gotten her a-- out of the house to work."

"The language here was, perhaps, inartful, or perhaps America is a society that lives to fight stupid, non-consequential, meaningless controversies and this is the new one," Maher said.

"But what she meant to say, I think, was that Ann Romney has never gotten her a-- out of the house to work. No one is denying that being a mother is a tough job, I remember that I was a handful. Okay, but there is a big difference in being a mother, and that tough job, and getting your a-- out of the door at 7am when it’s cold, having to deal with the boss, being in a workplace, and even if you're unhappy you can’t show it for 8 hours, that is a different kind of tough thing."

As Politico previously reported, "Comedian Bill Maher announced [in February] that he will donate one million dollars to President Obama’s re-election campaign." And Politico follows that piece up with a report last night that states: "The biggest individual donor revealed Friday was hedge fund billionaire James H. Simons, who cut a $1 million check to Majority PAC at the end of last month. That matches him with controversial comedian Bill Maher, who gave $1 million to Priorities USA Action in February, as the biggest Democratic super PAC donors so far this year."

Maher's comments indicate that while President Obama maintains his "lay off my wife" rule that presumably protects First Lady Michelle Obama from receiving criticism of her activities, the wives of other politicians aren't nearly as fortunate.
