Mitch Daniels, the popular two-term Republican governor of Indiana, has cut another advertisement on behalf of his political mentor, senior Republican senator Dick Lugar. "Our nation faces huge dangers," Daniels says in the 30-second spot. "And it'll take people with his big picture vision and broad respect to see us past it." At the end of the commercial, Daniels adds, "We're lucky to have Dick Lugar, and we need to keep him." Watch the ad below:

This is the second pro-Lugar ad from Daniels, who is the most high-profile Hoosier to endorse the six-term senator in the primary race. Fellow Indiana GOP heavyweights Senator Dan Coats, Congressman Mike Pence, who is running this year to succeed Daniels as governor, and former vice president Dan Quayle have notably not endorsed Lugar over his primary opponent, state treasurer Richard Mourdock.

A recent Mourdock-commisioned poll shows Mourdock leading Lugar, 44 percent to 39 percent, ahead of the May 8 primary. There has been little independent polling of the race, and the Lugar campaign maintains that its internal polling shows Lugar leading Mourdock. The winner of the Republican primary will likely face Democratic congressman Joe Donnelly in the general election.
